Snow, Cereal, Meeting -- Log

Went for a full-fledged road ride today, out to Saanich, and i'm happy to say that the roads are pretty much clear - yay!! It's pretty amazing tho, once i got out to Wallace Drive (maybe 15km out of town) the temperature drops several degrees, and there's still a LOT of snow there! Like, half a foot or more...it's pretty wild how Victoria is green again, and it's a whole other world out there..i'd hate to see what's up-island..

I've been having fun in the snow tho, on Saturday i met up with David Mercer, and we went over to Beacon Hill Park and rode around there on our MTB's. We made up a little course (with a steep, icy decent!) and did it a bunch of times. He'd never tried going down the section previously (tho has been practicing climbing up it), and did very well for his first time! I'm half surprised he even tried it, it was pretty hairy! Basically ice or pointy branches were your options..hehe..

Sunday David and i actually made it out on the road, but just did the water, up and back. Pat L came out as well, hadn't seen him in a surprisingly long time, nice to catch up with him.

US Cyclocross pro and vegan Christine Vardaros has started a blog, it's fun following her exploits, she's a good writer and funny, here's a killer interview from a CX racing site. Even mention of me! Teeheehee!! I was also inspired by her name, and invented a breakfast cereal in honor of her, maybe we'll see these on shelves some day. ;)

Also, if you're in Victoria, i'll be organizing meetings/discussion groups for local vegan and veggie athletes (as well as veggie-curious!) to talk about plant-based nutrition, and how to get the most out of it, as well as other issues that might affect sporty veggie-lovers. Final note, one of the things that have been keeping me busy is a new monthly newsletter for Victoria, called The Victoria Vegan - check it out! First issue came out three weeks ago, and the second December issue will be out in a week or so. =)
